MOST SUCCESSFUL JOCKEY. TOGO JOHNSTONE HEADS LIST. RODE 49 WINNERS. (Received July 20, 11 a.m.) PARIS, July 19. The ex- Australian jockey Togo Johnstone heads the list of winning jockeys in Franco for the season with 49 wins out of 251 mounts. Slbbritt is third with 22 wins out of 134 mounts.

Johnstone, after riding prominently in Australia, went to England where he rode for Lord Glanely and is best remembered for the criticism levelled at him over his handling of the hot favourite Colombo, in the English Derby, last season when lie was beaten into third by Windsor Lad and Easton. After that Johnstone went to France, where he met with signal success.

GAINE GARRINGTON’S PURCHASE. IMPORTANCE TO WAIKATO. Mr Gaine Carrington, jnr., of Makaraka, near Gisborne, son of the wellknown stud master who died recently, has purchased a property of 71 acres at Ilillcrcst and will take up his residence there shortly. This will mean that the prominent sire Hunting Song will now be available for service In the Waikato district and should contribute largely to the betterment of bloodstock in these parts. Mr Carrington has also in view the importation of a Blandford stallion from England. The property, which has been purchased from Mrs E. E. Hale, is a fine undulating area and ideal for the establishment of an up-to-date stud farm. The purchase price has not been disclosed. i THE VALPAI CASE. OWNER LODGES APPEAL. FURTHER STAGE ENTERED ON. A further phase in the Yalpai case has been entered on, Mr L. Hodgson, of Hamilton, owner of the horse having lodged an appeal with (lie New Zealand Racing Conference against the Auckland District Committee’s llnding.
