AIR TRANSPORT
“ PROGRESS WILL BE RAPID.” . SHIPPING DIRECTOR’S VIEW. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) • WELLINGTON, Friday. “ It may seem humorous to some that this old salt-water company should be hiking to the air,” -said Sir James Mills, chairman of directors of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, speaking as a guest of honour at a gathering of members of the .Merchant Service Guild to-day.
“There is no doubt in my mind, however, that, the major transport services of Ihe future, as far as passengers and mails are concerned, will be in the air.
'* Aeroplanes are developing very rapidly, nol only in siwed, bnf also in
carrying capacity,” continued Sir James, “and the main services to be rendered by ships in I lie future will be eargo-Cjirrying and I lie cheaper seetlons of the passenger traffic. The march of science to-day makes one think before very long we shall not only lie able to converse freely with friends at a distance, but will also see them at Hie same lime.” (Laughter.)
