The Governor-General, Viscount Galway and Viscountess Galway were accorded a civic reception at Dannevirke yesterday. An address of welcome on behalf of the borough and Dannevirke County was read by the Mayor, Mr E. Gibbard, and Sir Alfred Ransom, acting-Prime Minister, and member for the district, supplemented the official welcome. \

The Hon. A. Hamilton, aoting-Minis-ter of Finance and Minister in charge of the Tourist and Publicity Department, yvas 'engaged on departmental matters in Auckland yesterday. The Minister will leave for Wellington tomorrow night.

The Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce, who arrived in Auckland on Thursday, was engaged yesterday on departmental business. He returned to Wellington last night, and will leave Wellington again at the week-end on a visit to South Island centres.

Mr H. R. Bach, of Napier, has been appointed engineer to the Thames Borough Council.
