MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENT.

RECONSTITUTED COURT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The recently-reconstituted Wellington (Country) Mortgagors’ Adjustment Commission has commenced its operations. The Minister of Justice, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stated to-day that in order to assist, in the disposal of the accumulation of applications waiting to bo dealt with within the Wellington district arrangements had been made with the Court of Review to deal finally with all applications for relief in which the parlies consented to their applications being dealt with without previous investigation by the Adjustment Commission. Two members of tho Court of Review had experience as chairmen of adjustment commissions and as each member of the Court had practical knowledge of the problems to be dealt with it was anticipated that the arrangements made would prove acceptable lo all parlies. There is power under the Rural Mortgagors’ Final Adjustment Act to transfer lo the Court of Review constituted under the Act the jurisdiction •at present exercised by the Supreme Court ami magistrate's in relation to applications under the Mortgagors’ and Tenants’ Relief Act, 1 933.

Two Courts Functioning. The Minister stated that an Ordcr-In-'Counciil had been passed transferring lo the Court, of Review jurisdiction in respect of all applications for relief by rural mortgagors. The Court of Review proposes lo sit in the near future at the more important centres in I lie Wellington district. It is anticipated the Court will first sit at Wanganui on Thursday and llien at Palmerston North, where the accumulation of applications awaiting investigation is understood lo be heaviest. Under that arrangement, Mr Cobbe said, there would he the equivalent of two commissions functioning for liio time being and this should result in Ihe early disposal of all outstanding applications.
