TWO ARRESTS MADE.
DETECTIVES’ PROMPT ACTION. CUBIST CHURCH, Sunday. A little over 24 hours after the safe at the store of Hay’s, Limited, had been blown open, Christchurch detectives, who had travelled by motor-car to Picton, 170 miles away, arrested two men. They took the two suspects by surprise and found in their possession a largo sum in cash. The crime was committed about 3 a.m. yesterday and it was less than an hour later when Detectives J. J. Halci’ow and A. Herron, of Christchurch, commenced investigations on the case. From then'on until late at'night efficient observations, and rapid reports by , officers and .police stations along the route from Christchurch to Picton described lo tho detectives the swift progress of two men by car and train. The detectives set out from Christchurch in a fast car for Picton. Leaving aL 11.30 p.m. they arrived at Picton early this morning. The arrested men will appear in the Picton Police Court to-morrow morning. It is Understood a good proportion of Hie money allegedly stolen lias been recovered.
