PRISONERS SENTENCED.
AUCKLAND SUPREME COURT. CASES - FROM TI3 KUITI. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Sent on from the Court at Te Kuiti, Patrick Daniel Mullins, aged 23, and Samuel AlcNicholl, aged 29, came up for sentence before Air Justice Fair in the Supreme Court yesterday, for having broken into a dwelling by day and theft. Air Noble, who appeared for both prisoners, said they had been ’travelling around the King Country on bicycles seeking employment by sweeping chimneys. About 30 miles from Te Kuiti they came upon a roadman’s hut and broke into it, taking some articles which counsel said were of trilling value. AlcNicholl had lost his rather when he was six years of age and his mother had had a large family to bring up. He had had a lesson in 1931 when he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment. Alullins had never known father or mother and had been brought up in a home. It was a case which might be met by probation. His Honour said the two cases were very different in the way in which they should be treated. AlcNicholl bad bad a lesson before, and lie would be sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, with hard labour. Alullins would be admitted lo probation for two years, with llic special condition that lie must report lo llic police once a month.
