DROUGHT IN QUEENSLAND.
MORE RAIN NEEDED. PASTORALIST3 HEAVY LOSSES. MANY FARMERS . ' FACE _ RUIN. United Press Assn.—Elbe. Tel. copyright. BRISBANE, June 10. The rains in the drought-stricken area of Queensland were insufficient to bring lasting relief to pastoralists. Their only hope is that more downpours will follow. (From a Correspondent.) SYDNEY, June 6. Reports coming from a huge area of Queensland and north-western and far-western New South Wales show that little or no rain has fallen since Christmas, anil in some parts since April of last year. There is no doubt that many engaged in the pastoral industry have suffered, or are facing heavy and perhaps ruinous losses. One prominent company director has said that unless adequate rain fell immediately the losses of sheep would be enormous. Reports received by one company stated that waterholes on the Barcoo had failed which had never been dry in living memory. Estimates of the loss of sheep vary up lo 5,000,000.
