The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, received the moderator of the Auckland Presbytery, the Rev. W. P. Rankin, at Government House yesterday morning. On July 3 Lord Galway will visit Whangarei, where he will receive a civic welcome in the afternoon and open the Whangarei Winter Show in the evening.

Sir Alexander Herdman is, visiting Hamilton to-day.

Sir Alexander Young, Minister of Health and Internal Affairs, has returned to Wellington after visiting Auckland for bis mother’s ninetieth birthday.

Sir Henry Horton received the congratulations of members of the Auckland Rotary Club yesterday on his receipt of a knighthood.

The Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. C. E. Macmillan) is to open the National Hairy Show at Palmerston North next week.

Mr Justice Reed, who has been presiding at the Supreme Court session in Hamilton, will leave this evening for Wellington.

Flight-Lieutenant S. Wallingford, of the flobsonville Air Base, is in Hamilton.

Mr A. M. Simpson, manager of the Earnshaws Docks and Honolulu Iron Works at Manila, Philippine Islands, arrived at Auckland by the ,Monowai from Sydney yesterday. He will remain! In New Zealand for a fortnight.

At the conclusion of 34 years’ service on the literary staff of the Press, Christchurch, Mr John S. Kelly has retired on pension. Members of all departments met to make him a presentation and to offer him their best wishes for a happy retirement.

Mr J. R. H. Caiman, assistant manager of the Rank of New South Wales, at Auckland, has been appointed to the management of the A.R.C. (Australian Bank of Commerce) branch, at Melbourne, and will be succeeded by Mr E. C. V. Hlne, accountant at the Melbourne olllce.

Feeling reference to the passing of the late Mr Dynes Fulton, a former member of the club, was made by the president, Mr 11. W. Lucas, at the annual meeting of the Frankton Rowling Club last evening. A motion of condolence with the relatives of deceased was passed, the meeting standing.

A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr 11. E. Jacka was passed at a meeting of the Waikato Winter Show Association executive committee 'this, morning. Mr J. Ballard, who presided, mentioned that Mr Jacka had been for some years the superintendent of the school section of the show and a member of the general committee.
