THE FRANKTON CLUB.
PAST SEASON REVIEWED.
MR J. 'COONEY NEW 'PRESIDENT,
A season attended by a fair measure of success was reviewed at the tAventy-fourth annual meeting of the Frankton Bowling Club last evening. In spite of the unfavourable weather there was an attendance of about 13 -members, the president, -Mr 11. W. I Lucas, presiding. “Although the attendance -of -players on the green was not up to the usual standard in the -early part of the -season, the season has been quite a successful one,” said the chairman in his annual report. OAving to the exceptionally dry -season 'the -green required much -care and attention, and the club’s thanks were due to the green superintendent, Mr A. P. Daysh, for preserving a playing surface throughout the season. Club Competitions. 'Competitions, inter-club games, and tournaments had been held in keeping with other years. The annual Anniversary Day -tournament was not held owing to the. Centre holding a tournament on that day, which meant a decided loss to the -club. It was 'to be hoped -that the -Centre would grant that date to the club in the coming year. Two mid-Aveek tournaments and -several progressive -fixtures Avere held during the year. Club competitions resulted as follows:—Championship -singles, 'Mr 'R. P. Bond; runner-up, Mr 'E, L. Whineray; handicap singles, Mr P. Exelby; runner-up, Mr E. L. Whlneray; -'handicap pairs, Messrs R. P. 'Bond and G. Labrum; runners-up, Messrs L. Hawkins and P. Exelby.. The club was -successful in filling first -and -second places in the Whitiora -Club’s Easter tournament, the winners being Messrs Samson, Judge, Wheeler, and Lucas, and the runners-up, Messrs Labrum, Exelby, Bond and: Hawkins. Votes of thanks to the -club’s officers, donors of -trophies, and the members of the 'Croquet 'Club, 'concluded the report.
Commenting on the -club’s financial position the chairman said that Avliile the membership showed an increase over the previous year, -the expenditure for Hie year Avas in excess of income. Something Avould have to be done to increase the income, and he considered that the club's positron would be improved if members endeavoured to enrol new members..
The need Tor increased membership Avas also stressed by Mr C. A. Barren, in moving -the adoption -of the report and balance sheet. -
Eleotlon of Offloers.
The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, Mr R. T. Reid; president, Mr J. T. 'Cooney; vice-president, Mr R. P; Bond;'Secretary and treasurer, Mr. E, L. Whineray; committee, Messrs , A. Bridges, L. Hawkins,! D. Cann, *H.-. Judge, - H. E. Robinson; A. Rockell; auditor, Mr J. Prenton; grounds -committee, Messrs J. Cooney, A. Bridges, B. P. Bond; selection and -match committee, Messrs E. L. Whlneray, R. P. Bond, L. Hawkins; delegates to South Auckland Centre, Messrs A. Wheeler, J. Cooney; delegates to Waikato Bowling Com--ntittee, Messrs Cooney, Wheeler; club coaches, Messrs 'R. P.. Bond and L. Hawkins. Whether a -grounds -committee of three or a -green superintendent should bn appointed--.was keenly debated, a decision being reached to elect a committee. ! It AA'as decided that the -subscription snoulcl remain the same as last year. As a recommendation to -the. incoming committee it was moved that -club competitions -should commence and finish on fixed dales. A suggestion was made that the -club should consider flood-lighting the green as a -means of Increasing revenue. Several speakers expressed the view that this should be seriously considered by the committee, and a decision on these lines AA’as reached. The trophies won during the past season Avere presented by Mr Cooney, Avho congratulated the successful players upon their achievements.
