DEVELOPMENTS IN ENGLAND
AN INEXPENSIVE TREATMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Professor Bell, of Otago University, returned by the Makura to-day. Professor Bell has been Home with the object of studying the latest developments !in isurgery anVl advances in teaching methods. He says the cancer organisation has reached a high standard of efficiency and the main hospitals all had cancer •clinics with a special medical officer in charge. Dealing with advances In radio therapy Professor Bell said several hospitals were trying out . cheap low voltage X-ray apparatus for the treatment of superficial cancer cases. This form had been used in Germany with success and might he used as a substitute for radium, .when radium was not readily available. Great interest attached to the treatment of cases of the malignant disease with beam therapy, involving the use of a radium bomb, but cases treated with it necessarily required observation over a period of years before any final conclusions could be drawn.
