HAMILTON CLUB’S YEAR. •CUP TO .MR W. G. POUNTNEY. The 'Hamilton 11001111,!; Pigeon Club lias just concluded ils most successful year with a race from Paekakariki. This decided 'flic Young 'Bird Average 'Cup, which was won hy Mr W. G. Pountncy’s bird, with Mr 'L. ■Mon’s bird runner-up. (Much more interest and a greater number of new members 'Competing helped to make the season the success It was. The question is often asked by persons with no experience in pigeon racing, “What is there in U. to create interest like 1 have seen displayed by some competitors. In any sport it is always Hie glorious uncertainty which stimulates inJ forest and creates keenness, writes a correspondent. Horse racing, dog racing, boxing, foolhnll or sport- of any nature all contain a certain i amount of Hie human clement. Pigeon racing is Ihe only sport where this is absent and n purely natural element of uncertainly prevails. For. once Hie hints arc liberated, it is absolutely beyond human power lo interfere with them. It. Is here that Hie excitement arises of watching for one’s own birds, ns (lie time for their arrival approaches. Apart from the open nature, of Hie sport, some very fine trophies as well as good cash prizes, are offered, for the -successful competitors. Quite apart from 'the racing side of t.he hubby, the study and breeding of Hie. birds is really an education, and when it is realised that it only costs approximately one penny per week to keep each bird it is not an expensive pastime. The year's work will be reviewed in detail al the annual meeting of Hit: 'Hamilton Homing Pigeon Club on 1 Tuesday.
