GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS. Th 6 Egmont Racing Club’s meeting will open on Saturday and conclude on Monday. ,:■■■, * . Leaving To-day. Bouglial, Sirona, Lion Heart and Gram ieLUiV llawera to-day by 11 lit 'to luilll';bflfeageiiients at the. Egmont meeting. " Rode Three Winners. ; A. Tinker experienced i a remunerative meeting at Avondale.when he rode ■three winners, High Tea, Lay Sheik, and Enge. Left at the Start, The Te Rapa trained lUuminagh was sent out favourite for the Ladles’ Bracelet at Marton on Saturday, but he failed to jump away correctly and lost whatever chances he possessed. , -I'm. * Impaato Disappoints, After hla decisive victory-over & mile on the llrst day at Avondale lnipasto disappointed over a shorter distance on the second day, when, back'ed down to a short price, he couii do no better than finish a moderate third. Will Improve. British 'Columbia, while not in the money, ran two consistent races at the Avondale meeting and he should not be long In making .amends. His next ■start will be in the open sprint on the first day of the Egmont meeting and any improvement on latest efforts would suggest a chance for the Top Gallant fivo-year-old. His fraotlousness at. the barrier is ■ against . him, however. Showed Promise. . In both his races at Avondale Teak gave the impression that he should develop into a useful three-year-old. On the first day at Avondale he looked a likely winner Inside the distance, but Just failed to see It out. On the second day ho showed speed over the early part only to fade out at the end.

Did Not Handle Conditions. Light Comedy did not appear to be at home in the conditions at Avondale and her chances on the second day. were further affected through ■catching the barrle'r slightly as the tapes were released. She has proved her ability before, however, to cover the ground and on firmer going would have been harder to dispose of at Avondale. Sprung a Surprise. Esteem sprung a surprise in the Open Hurdles at Marton on Saturday. It was his first race for several months and despite the fact that he was big in condition lie was responsible for a ■solid effort. Park Acre went out to make the pace hut Esteem kept to’him throughout and drawing away in the straight went on for a clear-cut victory. Valpai Wins Well. Yalpai won well on the second day of the Avondale meeting and was always travelling like a winner over the latter part of the trip. Valpai’s fencing lias improved considerably of late and this coupled with his pace on tlie flat should make him a payable proposition in engagements ahead. He has come through his recent racing ■in great heart. Won Decisively. Gay Sheik was responsible for a solid performance on the second day at Avondale when, improved by-his first-day outing, he scored a convincing victory in the two-year-old event. The Gay Shield colt was capably handled by A. Tinker, who kept him behind until the foot of the straight to come at the finish with a punishing run that gave nothing else a chance.

Made Amends. Sinking Fund made amends for recent failures when lie won over seven furlongs on the Monday at Avondale. With Princess Star ho was the pacemaker throughout and finishing on better than his companion he scored nicely at the finish. Tutchen's charge is especially fit at present and should .win .further, for hist connections in the near future.

Handily Weighted. Orac, who will form one of M. J. Carroll's siring at the Egmori', meeting on Saturday not Monday, is handily weighted for tne part in the Telegraph Hack in which !v appears with 7.11. Orac’s recent efforts haVe drawn -attention to his consistency and he will need only to produce Ids best to he one of the hardest to dispose of on Saturday. He has been working along pleas'ng'y In preparation for the meeting. *

fl Good Prospect. Lion Heart appeals as a good prospect for the five-furlong hack scurry on the first day of the Egmont meeting if he can thut reproduce anything like his true form. lie lias Omen moving along smoothly in his preparation and is bearing an improved appearance. With S.O he is in a position to give of his best and taking a line through his form on the final day of the Waikato meeting, when he was ■below his best, he should, with ordinary luck in the running, more than pay his way on the trip.

Will Improve. Lucidus had his first experience! of hurdling 'company on the first day at Avondale and while his fencing was not without blemish lie completed the course and his exhibition lent strength to the Impression that he is susceptible to Improvement. lie is 'entered far the Tongahoe Hurdles at Hawera on Saturday and is not without chances in the class. Led Ail the Way. Wahine Nui won the Maiden Race at Marton on Saturday very decisively. ■ She led all the way and while she met with practically no opposition she went well in the heavy going and has improved. Produced later in the day she went under by half-a-length to Bazaine after being slow to move. Course Did Not Suit Him. The turning course at Feilding was not suited to a big striding horse like Bouglial and his failures there should not be weighted 100 heavily against him. He is capable of better tilings and at Hawera on Saturday he will need to be taken into account in the summing up of the open sprint. He has come through his recent racing well and should strip in good heart for Saturday.'

Arawa Rose Surprises. •Arawa Rose sprung a surprise on the second day of the Avondale meeting when, after moving up handy to Hie leaders at the turn, she went on to win comfortably. On the first day the Musketoon mare had all the best of the jump out hut soon drifted into a hopeless position. ' She was finishing on hut could only finish fourth. Consequently her improved form was not generally anticipated.

King Rey. The Te Rapa trained King Rey gave a solid exhibition in his start on the first day of the Avondale meeting when, despite the holding nature of the going, he won with something in reserve under the solid impost of 9.9. On the second day, however, he proved unequal to conceding over two stone to the Improving light-weights, Arawa Rose and Laudatory. King Rey’s recent efforts have shown him to be a hack above. the average and he should go on to better things. Her Best to Date. Astarth gave her best performance to date when she prevailed in the open sprint on the concluding day of the Avondale meeting. It-was a particularly line finish and the issue was in doubt until the judge’s numbers were hoisted. Gipsy Moth and Namakia were fighting it out when Astarth flashed up on the outer, the judge finding in her favour by half-a-head. Aslarth’s success was due largely to Wiggins’ vigorous riding tactics. Wiggins also steered Exaggeration to victory in the sprint on opening day.

Confirmed Good Impression

On the first day at Avondale Tonnerre confirmed the good impression lie had created in his first start at Pukekphe, by scoring narrowly in a punishing finish with Triune and the Te llapa trained Teak. There was only a nose and a neck in it. On the second day Tonnerre was slightly better hacked than the Velocipede— Triune bracket and Gay Sheik, and while he ran another solid race he was unable to' withstand the finishing run of the Gay Shield colt.

Won Really Well. Lapel won the Crofton Hack Cup really well at Marton on Saturday. On the whole his performance was a ■meritorious one as he was In a poor position for most of the running, for although on the rails he was not near the front and had a big bunch round him. However he was able to work his way up as the field began to string out. At the straight entrance Amyril took charge with Illuminagh also handy. Finishing on resolutely ■Lapel got up in • the last few strides to overhaul Illuminagh on the post.

Covered Extra Ground. Favourite for the Mt. Roskill Handicap on the second day at Avondale Keith Lu did not have the host of luck in the running and (better placed earlier in proceedings he may have proved more difllcult to dispose of. While he jumped away smartly he soon drifted into a hopeless position and was obliged to come wide round his field at the bottom of the straight. The extra ground he was called upon to cover left him wanting at the end. He is entered for the Tawhitl Hack at Hawera on Saturday (the opening day of the Egmont meeting) and lie will have his chance there to make amends.

T® Rapa’s Representative. Te Rapa stables will be represented In the big mile and a quarter ,at Hawera on Saturday by the Gay Shield filly, Sirona, and her fine showing against the brilliant Gay Blonde in the Great .Northern Oaks entitles her to respect. Over a- mile and a half In the Oaks she ran Gay Blonde to three-parts of a length in record time for the race and on that occasion she was carrying 8.(2. On Saturday she has been weighted at only 7.0 and as she is fit and well for her engagement she should not fail lo keep the balance of the field fully up lo it.

JOCKEY'S APPEAL. DISMISSAL BY COMMITTEE. WHANG AREI INCIDENT. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The appeal by the jockey 0. W. Medially, against his disqualification for six months by the judicial committee of the Whangarei Racing Club was dismissed by the Auckland District Committee last evening. Mclnally rode the favourite Gay Cockade in the Ruatangata Handicap. In which lie ran third. The disqualification was imposed on the ground that the horse was not run on his merits. The District Committee, after hearing Mclnally, found that tie had failed to bring any evidence to sustain the grounds of ids appeal, which was, therefore, dismissed. The deposit of £r> was ordered to be returned to Mclnally.
