The financial success of commissioner control in the Matakaoa County is indicated by the largely increased rate collections for the last financial year. £10,266 was received, including £4707 representing arrears from previous years. ■ ■ _ European landowners paid i < pci cent, of their levies, and native landowners 39 per cent-, 'the latter showing a highly satisfactory improvement on the preceding year.
