MINISTER OF EMPLOYMENT
PORTFOLIO RELINQUISHED. SIR A. YOUNG’S DECISION. WELLINGTON, Friday. Sir Alexander Young, acting on medical advice, will relinquish the Employment portfolio, which he has administered since last July, when lion. A. Hamilton was obliged for 'health reasons to secure release from some of li is duties.
In recent months Sir Alexander has been working between 12 to 10 hours daily, and the strain of such long hours has told on him. In view of the increased duties which will fall on all Ministers in the absence from New Zealand of the Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, and the Minister of Finance, Mr Coates, Sir Alexander has been permitted to retire from the Employment portfolio. He previously sought such relief, but undertook at Mr Forbes’ request to carry on until the end of the session. It is expected the Employment portfolio will be administered by the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Education. who Incidentally was . Hie llrst Minister of Employment.
