SLEEPING IN STABLES.
OFFENDERS AT TE RAPA. CHRISTMAS TRIP AFTERMATH. The aftermath of a trip to taste Christmas festivities in Auckland was heard in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to-day, when three labourers, Frank McDonald (32), James Blake (47) and John Connolly (39), pleaded guilty to charges of trespassing in the buildings of the Waikato Racing Club at Te Rapa last night. Mr J. H. Gittos and Dr F. D. Pinfold, J’s.P. were on the bench. ,
Senior-Sergeant J. J. Power explained that Connolly and McDonald were “ swagging ” from Auckland to Otorohanga after they had lost all their assets, during a Christmas visit to the city. They had to return to their jobs as labourers as best as they could, and In the course of the journey south they had met Blake who had accompanied them. 1 When they had reached Te Rapa last evening they were told by a farmer that they could shelter In a shed further on and the three men had made themselves comfortable in the racing club's stables. Here there was a grave danger of fire. There was no suggestion that their presence there was for any other reason than to obtain a night's sleep. All three men explained to the bench that they had work to go to. They intended to leave the town immediately. - The 1 Bench took a lenient view of the offences and convicted and discharged Ihe trio. .'Vi.--.-.
