THE HORRORS OF WAR.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Right-Hon. Lloyd George, speaking at a recent meeting in London, stated “That you cannot tell the grim truth when a war is going on." Such an admission from a statesman of the calibre of Mr Lloyd George shows that the policies of world Governments are tending to other means than warfare to settle international differences. A policy that must back itself by untruth is bound eventually to collapse, and we hope that the “period” will eventuate this desirable end in a short time. It is a pity that our world’s leaders have left it to this late date to express their, views, and it now remains to be seen whether it is too late. It is not the statesmen nor the politicians who rule the situation. It is the international schemers in finance and armaments who hold the trump cards in their hands.
We are looking forward to a brighter New Year; let -us work for the spreading of a new spirit of friendship among nationals and internationals so that the schemers may be baulked by public opinion at the first evidences of settlement by the arbitrament of military enterprise.—l am, etc.,
