The Duke of Gloucester was the guest of the Northern Club at Auckland at dinner last evening. The function was private.
Sir Stephen Morel! and Lady Morell, of Melbourne, visited Hamilton on Wednesday and left yesterday morning for Rotorua.
The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, who had been. In Auckland for two days,' returned to .Dargaville to-day for the remainder of the holidays..
Mr Hendry Luke, managing director of Wilton Collieries, Limited', left Auckland by the Monowai to-day on a holiday visit to Australia.
Field-Marshal Lord Milne will pass through Auckland on the Niagara on January 7. He will be returning to England after attending, the Empire Service League conference In Melbourne.
First-Class Aircraftsman R. Brewer, formerly of Hamilton, and now attached to the ground staff at Wlgram aerodrome, Christchurch, is in Hamilton. i
Mr D. Caithness, dredgemastcr at Gellcspi'e’s Beach, lias been appointed dredgemastcr to the .Maori G'ltlly Gold Dredging Company. He will commence his duties on February 4. There were 21 applicants.
Mr E. W. F. Gohns, who for four years has been a certifying officer of the Unemployment Board at Wanganui, is to retire at the end of the year. Mr Cohns, who has served in Wanganui for 21 years, will be succeeded by Mr S. E. McGregor, of Nelson.

Dr. Michael Kelly, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, who was recently reported seriously ill, shows further improvement, but the bronchial affection which caused a serious collapse a few days ago has left his heart in a weakened condition. lie has received many goodwill messages from New Zealand and other pirts of the Empire.
