ROLLED DOWN HILLSIDE.

MAN AND GIRL INJURED.

AUCKLAND, Thursday

When watching the llreworks display given on the harbour last night two young people who were sitting on the steep hillside of Mount Victoria at Devonport, were struck on the heads by a stone, which rolled from above. ' Apparently someone above dislodged a number of stones, which rolled past the couple. Then came a larger one, which struck a young man, G. L. GrifHn, knocking him unconscious, and then struck his girl companion on tlm head.

Botli were sent, home. Gridin quickly recovered consciousness, and was ai work to-day, hut Miss Connor, whose head was seriously gushed, may be in bed for a week. Whether the stones were deliberately rolled down the hill is not known*
