HOKITIKA JUBILEE.
COMPREHENSIVE CELEBRATIONS. LARGE CROWD PRESENT. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, Thursday. The Hokitika jubilee celebrations were continued to-day in fine weather.
There was a record crowd present ■this morning, when an old-time procession look place. A very fine display was made, headed by Maoris in a war-time canoe and including many ■old-time relics and tableaux. The streets were gaily decorated and were lined with delighted spectators.
The pioneers’ luncheon in the Soldiers’ Hall was largely attended. Sports are taking place on the raceoourse this afternoon, with an old-time social in the evening. There was the largest crowd seen In Hokitika for many years on Christmas Eve, when the town was gaily illuminated.
The celebrations will continue on Friday and Saturday, with a wind-up ■on Monday night. The New Year is being welcomed with a grand fireworks display. Many old coasters from all parts of New Zealand are present for the celebrations.
