MR KEN WALLER’S FLIGHT. BELGIAN CONGO REACHED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel., Copyright CAPETOWN, DOCS 23. A message from Niamey,. French West Africa, -states that Mr Ken Waller and Captain Franohomme arrived there on Friday. They had flown across the Sahara desert and had averaged 220 miles an hour from Oran. To-day the airmen arrived at Leopoldville, Belgian Congo (their destination). They have flown more than 4000 miles in 51 hours, including slops. Mr Ken Walter, who, with Lieutenand O. Cathcart-Jones, recently flew to Australia and back :n 13. J days, left England last Wednesday for Belgium lo fly to Leopoldville in the Come-t aeroplane they used in Ihe Melbourne Centenary air race. NEW YORK, Dec. 24
Strong 'cross winds prevented Sir Charles Kingaford Smith completing an attempted record flight from Burbank, California, to New York. He landed at Kansas City yesterday afternoon after leaving California at 6.48 a.m. The" airman flew to Cincinnati on Saturday, and yesterday he left for Los Angeles. The airman proposes to return to Australia on January 10 unless he •negotiates contracts in the meantime.
