FOG IN BRITAIN.
* -O TRAFFIC HELD UP. MOTORISTS’ EXPERIENCES. United Press Assn,—£!ec. Tel. Copyrigm LONDON, Dec. 24. There was a widespread fog in the central and eastern parts iof England yesterday, and in the South Eastern Counties it persisted to-day in and around London. Late last night It became so dense in some suburbs that the speed of road traffic was reduced to a walking pace, and it was necessary for the buses to be led lay officials on foot carrying torches. . a Many motorists, trapped by local fogs, were compelled to abandon their cars for the night. The railways ■suffered relatively little interference, but the effects of the fog, combined with heavy Christmas traffic congestion, caused a delay on some lines. Shipping movements, particularly * in the Thames estuary, were also severely hampered and the departure of the P. and 0. liner Viceroy of India . was held up.
