Alfred Arthur Gurney, who had over 20*pre>nis convictions for dishonesty, was sent to gaol for one month for imposing on a taxi-driver, by getting a ride to Pllmnierton and hack on the representation that he was staying at an hotel in Wellington from which he rang for a ear. On finding that the man was not ■going to pay the driver proceeded to the police station and handed his fare over for investigation, when a wholo tissue of lies was revealed but no evidence of money.
