INTERNATIONAL TENNIS

MATCHES IN AUSTRALIA.

LOCAL TEAM’S SUPERIORITY.

WIN EVERY MATCH.

United Press —Elec. Tel. Copyright.

SYDNEY, Dec. 23

Australia won every match in the first three days of the International triangular tennis contest and therefore is in an unassailable position. ■ A large crowd was present at yesterday’s games, which were played in very hot weather. Results were:— Singles.—-Hughes defeated Brugnon, 6—4, 6—3; McGrath defeated Boussus, 7—5, 3—6, 6—3; Crawford defeated Perry, 6—o, 6—4. Doubles. —Crawford and McGrath defeated Perry and Hughes, 6 — l, 6—2, 7—5.

Play in the match between Hughes and Brugnon was patchy. Brugnon tired badly. Delightful tennis featured the match between McGrath and Boussus. Each man concentrated on the other’s weakness, but McGrath’s forehand stood up better than Boussus' backhand.-

Perry gave a pathetic display in the first set against Crawford, netting and outing simple returns. Crawford on the other hand was in great touch off either hand and served deep to the corners, forcing Perry to make defensive returns from which Crawford scored placements. . The Englishman was steadier in the second set. He followed good length drives into the net where he volleyed his-way to a 3—o and 4—2 lead, but then errors by Perry and hard serving by Crawford enabled the latter to take four games in succession for the match. , , . The Australian pair completely outplayed the Englishmen in the doubles, Hughes being the weak link.
