DEATH IN CHURCH.
COLLAPSE WHEN PRAYING.
AT COMMUNION SERVICE
AUCKLAND, Monday.
Shortly after the commencement of Holy Communion at Christ -Church, Ellersiie, yesterday morning, one of the congregation, Mrs Sarah Winifred Whitburn, aged 70, of Remuera, collapsed and died of heart failure. At the time of her collapse Mrs Whitburn was kneeling in prayer with the other worshippers, and it was not until she suddenly fell forward that her grand-da .ugh ter realised that something serious had happened. Members ■of the congregation quickly went to Mrs Whitburn’s assistance and she was carried into the vestry, but she was dead when a doctor arrived.
The vicar, Canon R. H. Hobday, decided not to proceed with the service. Reference to Mrs Whitburn’s death was made by him in his sermon at a later service.
