BRAIN’S COLLEGE.

EXAMINATION RESULTS. The obtaining of employment by* the college students and the high places gained in examination results were mentioned in the report of the principals of Brain’s Commercial College as gratifying of the year’s work. As compared with the previous year a large increase in enrolments was also recorded. In the Government examinations for shorthand-typists. Brain’s College was again most successful. College students obtained three out of the four senior Hamilton passes, gaining the first three places. In the junior division there were nine college passes, including the first four places. At a gathering of students prior to dispersing for the jholidays, Mrs D. E. Duthoit congratulated the students, Miss Noeline Habberfleld-Short being specially complimented for her achievement in gaining first place in the Hamilton Government junior examination after a course of study at the college of little more than six months. The students presented Mrs 'Duthoit with a handsome Brentleighware jug as a token of appreciation and affection. The following are among the noteworthy results: — - Government Senior Examination — Misses P. I. Johnson, B. L. Burns, P. Ashmore, first, second and third places. Junior: Misses N. Habberfield-Short, 'G. B. Kent, H. Pulliam, J. C. ’Spiers, first, second, third and fourth places. Other passes it’ere: Mr lan Burgess, Misses L. Waite, W. M. 'Holden, K. D. Maingay, M. J, Muir. Shorthand Awards —120 words per minute, Misses M. Tattley, B. L. Burns, P. Ashmore, P. I. Johnson; 110 words, Misses 'G. Christie, D. Robertson; 100 words, Misses J. C. Spiers, G. B. Kent. Thirty certificates for other rates up to 90 words per minute were alo awarded. Typewriting—63 words per minute, Miss P. Ashmore; 60, Miss D. Robertson;* 50 to 55, Miss N. HabberfleldShort, Mr E. Lambert, Misses A. Savory, M. Tattley; 40 to 50, Misses K. Maingay, J. Muir, Mr I. Burgess, Misses J. G. Spiers, L. Waite; 35 to 40, Misses G. B. Kent and Z. Faville. Book-keeping —Senior, E. Lambert; junior, Misses H. Pulham, N. Habber-lield-Short, L. Finley and Z. Faville. The high standard of work also resulted in students being very successful in obtaining employment during the year, 60. permanent and temporary positions'being filled. These excellent results reflect credit upon the scholars for their industry and upon the principals, .Mr and,Mrs Duthoit, for their careful training.
