The price of quinine has trebled, and five months’ supply was issued in 20 days, thousands of lbs. being* rushed from India, Java and England. The north-western province faces a foo.d shortage owing to floods and a caterpillar plague succeeding a prolonged drought. The Duke of Gloucester cabled his sympathy.
