The House of Commons to-day approved the unemployment assistance regulations by 258 votes to 61. The vole was preceded by a noisy interlude, during which Labour mtimbers angrily shouted protests against the Government, necessitating the Speaker’s intervention. The Labour malcontents complained that the scale of allowance was inadequate. An amendment to that effect was rejected by 286 votes to 75.

Under the new regulations of the Unemployment Assistance Board for the treatment of all able-bodied unemployed mfen except those receiving unemployment benefit, the extra cost to the British Exchequer will be £8,000,000. 'The basic scale is 24s for a man and wife, 16s for an unmarried man, and 14s for a woman. The first 5s a week of Fricndy. Societies’ sick pay will be disregarded, as also will be the first pound of the wound pensions. The regulations are operative between January 7 and March 1.
