WHATAWHATA NOTES.

CHILDREN ENTERTAINED. A very happy 'time was spent on Saturday afternoon, when Mr H. H-H-ow-den once again mad 6 .arrangements for -a number of children 'from the Whatawhata district to attend the matinee -programme of the Roxy Theatre, Frank'ton. At the endl of the return journey ■three lusty cheers were accorded Mr Howden.

SOCIAL. A very enjoyable -social was held at the Whatawhata Hall,. when a number of artists from Frank'ton and Hamilton gave of their best in order to raise fund's for the annual Christmas tree -and party, for the menders attending the 'local Sunday school.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The annual Christmas tree and children’s party, arranged by the members of the Whatawhata Women’s Institute, .and -held in the local hall on Friday, December 14, was a great success. A beautiful Christmas tree, kindly ■given by Mrs J. Iligginson, was very prettily 'diecobated with all sorts of ■pleasing gifts and balloons, etc. Charming little songs and recitations were given by the children and much appreciated. “.Mother Christmas” (Mrs Moore), looking very gay in liar red satin gown and gold lace, assisted; by the vice-president, Mrs McGibbons, presented eacli child with a gift, balloon, and a bag of lollies. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded Mrs J. Iligginson for supplying the tree, .Mrs W. Moisey andi Mrs R. Matsey, who gave the lollies, Mrs Eyre and Mrs Wilcock for the soft ■drinks, .Mrs Hally Johnstone, pianist, and Mrs Moore, Mr.s Soper, Mrs McGibbons and Mrs Rowe.
