MR MALCOLM MacDONALD

DEPARTURE FOR ENGLAND. A VERY INTERESTING' VISIT. AUCKLAND, Friday. Mr Malcolm MacDonald, who holds the office of Parliamentary Undersecretary for Dominion Affairs, left for Wellington yesterday afternoon, to embark on the Rangitane for England. . “We have had an extraordinarily interesting time,” said Mr MacDonald.

He said if these places were nearer Europe the Dominion would he a great tourist centre. In any case, there was no reason why there should not he a great development of the country as a tourist resort, as communications were becoming more rapid all the time. The Melbourne Centenary celebrations, which be attended, were described by Mr MacDonald as an enormous success.

“We do not know nearly enough about each other," said Mr MacDonald, " and an occasion like this Is a real chance to get people from different parts of the Empire to know each other and,each other’s countries better.” Mr MacDonald was reminded that there are two important centenaries to be celebrated in New Zealand in 1940, and he agreed that these would form very valuable opportunities for bringing 'together leaders in the Empire.
