EARTH MOVEMENT

REGION TILTING SOUTH.

NOTICEABLE EFFECTS. (Empire Press Union). TORONTO, November 14. The statement made by Rev. John Delaney, S.J., director of the seismological observatory of Canisius College at Buffalo, New York, that*the lower Great Lakes are “tilting southward” has caused some argument here in 'scientific circles. Father Delaney said the movement had been measured, and it amounted to only a few thousandths of an inch per but the effects had been noticeable on the shore lines of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. He believed that if the tilting continued very gradually the area would be free from earthquake convulsions. Professor A. P. Coleman, Toronto geologist, in commenting on the statement, said the earth movement had been noted, and he thought it had ended. It had continued for some tens of thousands of years, but was slight and imperceptible.
