Brilliant weather prevailed for the first international. women’s cricket match at Sydney cricket ground toflay between England and New South Wales. The captains were Miss Betty Archdale (England) and Miss Margaret Peden (New South Wales). The Englishwomen won the toss and batted, scoring 221 (Miss M. Maclaglan 24, Miss M. Hide 44, Miss ,T. Partridge 32, Miss D. Turner 50, Miss M. Spear 21). Bowling: Miss E. Sbevill took 'two wickets for 53 runs and Miss F. Blade three for '4O. New South Wales had lost one wiclcet for 50 runs when stumps were drawn. INTER-STATE CONTESTS. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES. MELBOURNE, Dec. 14. In a Sheffield Shield cricket match against Queensland to-day Victoria in the first innings lost eight wickets for 276 runs (Rigg 87, Oakley 44, Barnett, not out, 36, McCormick, not out, 50). Bromley failed to score. At Adelaide New South Wales scored 336 runs for eight wickets against South Australia. The principal scorers were Kippax, not out, 114, Brown 81 and Flnglelon 55.
