POPULAR CONSTABLE.
RETIREMENT AT RAGLAN.
PRESENTATIONS AND TRIBUTES. One of the largest public gather--ings ever held in Raglan assembled in the Town Hall last evening to bid farewell to Constable J. O’Sullivan, who is retiring from the police force after 28 year-s' service at Raglan, and Mrs O’Sullivan. Mr J. Thompson, chairman 'of the Raglan Town Board, presided. All the social organisations and institutions of the district were represented, and among the party of police from Hamilton present were Inspector C. W. Lopdell, Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, Detective J. White and Sergeant S. H. Saunders. Detective-Sergeant Thompson read a large number of congratulatory telegrams and letters, and a cablegram from Australia, all wishing Mr and Mrs O'Sullivan long life and happiness. Constable O’Sullivan was presenteu with a substantial cheque on behalf of the people of Raglan, and several other presentations were made to him and his wife on behalf of various bodies.
The speakers referred to Constable O’Sullivan’s popular personality, his keen sense of duty and his fine record of service in the force, while, many eulogistic references were made to Mrs O’Sullivan, whose hospitality and kindness had been a by-word in Ragland for years.
The gathering took the form .of a social and dance and Mr, and Mrs O’Sullivan were accorded musical honours.
