DEMAND FOR NEW PRODUCTS.

SILK STOCKINGS AND 'RADIO

(Special to Times.) DUNEDIN, Friday. In his address to the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association last night, Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, referred to the tendency since the war for rapid changes in 'industry tooth in regard to newer types of product using the same raw materials and in regard to the extent to which substitute products and new Industries have developed, white at the same time the demand for the products of these newer Industries has become universal, owing to the -contact of these products brought about toy improved 'communication and per medium of the 'cinema, radio, etc. The Minister added: “For instance all the la'dies now want silk stockings, artificial or otherwise, and radius, electric appliances, etc., 'are in great demand;’ consequently we find that an increasing .proportion of the wages of the overwhelming mass of consumers of the 'community is toeing spent - on the products of these newer industries. "This I think is one of the problems before us in industrial development—that is the problem of increased flexibility tn industry to manufacture goods more in line with modern demands and of types of goods with a better appeal to the consumer.”
