NEW BRIDGE.

OVER KARAPIRO STREAM. £6400 PROPOSITION. CAMBRIDGE, Friday. At a meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council last night a letter from an Auckland firm staled that since forwarding i'iie preliminary estimates for the proposed new bridge over the Ivarapiro Stream, It was found that the Highways Board may insist on a roadway of 22 feet in width. The original plan provided for a width of 2.0 feet. The cost of the work would tie £6400.

The engineers did not favour a bridge built on a vertical curve, and the revised estimate Is for a reinforced concrete straight line bridge with a road width of 22 feet, planked by a footpath on both sides of the roadway, 4ft. 6in. wide. The length of the bridge will be 220 feet between abutments, and has been designed as a cantilever with a river span of 110 feet and two shore spans of 55 feet each.

The Mayor reported that the Main Highways Board' would meet one-third of the cost of the scheme, ’and the balance would be found by the council and contributing bodies. Messrs. Jones and Adams were appointed, subject to approval by the Highways Board, engineers of the scheme. _____
