FAREWELL PARTY. A most delightful bridge party was given by Mrs S. Lewis, of “Gowan Bank',’’ on Friday afternoon, as a farewell to Mrs McDowell. Pale blue hydrangeas and pink antirrhinums, delphiniums and copper beach foliage had been artistically arranged by Mrs McDowell. Tea was served; on the front verandah, which was delightfully cool, and the tables were bright with howls of sweet peas. Miss Cmpson, of Te Awamutu, won the prize for the highest score, Mrs Porrit the hidden number, and Mrs McDowell received a parting gift- Mrs Dawson, one of the Te Awamutu guests, presented Mrs McDowell with an exquisite early Victorian bouquet, exactly matching her frock. Those present from Te Awamutu were:—Mrs Dawson, Mrs Mandeno, Mrs Griffith and, Miss E. Empson.^ Others present were: —Mrs N. Waddle, Mrs H. 0. Porrit, Mrs R. J. Neely, Mrs A. H. Lundon, Mrs Stein (Auckland), Mrs Sheet, Miss Brann, Miss Ferguson, Miss S. Brann, ■ Miss Ruth Souter, Miss E. Jackson, and Miss Gwynneth. * To Meet Visitors. A delightfully informal evening party was given by* Mr and Mrs S. N. , Ziman on Friday last to enable some of their friends to meet 'the Misses Phoebe and; Eleanor Myers, of Wellington, who were their guests during the week-end. Those present were:—Mrs >R. .McDowell, 'Mr S. v Lewis and Miss B. Lewis, Dr. and Mrs Norman Waddle, Mr and Mbs C. W. Vennell, and Miss G. Perkins. Successful Recital. ,A most successful students’ concert was given in the Parish Hall bypupils of Miss Mary Attwood. An excellent and varied programme was given and pianoforte ensemble playing was presented to the 'Cambridge public for the first time, some of the difficult and popular numbers being Greig’s Peer Gynt Suite 'and Marionette lOverture, played on two pianos, by Misses Mary Atwood, Florence Garter, Enid Carter and Lucy Tripp. Another feature of the programme was the duo (two pianos) Polonaise (Saint Saens), played by Misses .Mary Attwood and Lucy Tripp, their rendering of this difficult work displaying excellent technical ability. The vocal work was of a hight standard, the voices of the young singers showing careful and thorough training. Miss Attwood was assisted on the programme by Miss Undine Clarke, a brilliant classical dancer of outstanding ability, whose rendering of the 'Funeral Dance • and 'the Spanish Dance showed the exceptional talent of this clever performer. Miss Attwood, is to be congratulated on the splendid programme and the high standard of work produced, which reflects much credit on her as a teacher. Birthday Party. A pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs Frances, Queen Street, Cambridge, the occasion being Mr Frances’ birthday. The evening was enjoyably spent in playing games, competitions, etc. Those present were: ; —Mr and Mrs Munroe, Mr and Mrs Watson, Mrs E. Williams, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Moore, Mrs Nixon, Miss Me Carroll, Miss Collis. Dance. On Tuesday evening last a very successful carnival dance was held in the Leamington Hall. The hall was very tastefully decorated with streamers, balloons, 'and a delicious supper was provided. Excellent music was supplied by Clayton's Dance Band and the extra by Mr Mason.
