IS WAR A SCIENCE?
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Readers of your valued paper will note that a New Zealand militai> man is to be sent to England to stud} the “science of war." Everybody knows that science is being perveited in preparations for war, but surely to describe war Itself as a "science is a shocking insult to the immortals who have given us biology, geology, physiology and all the other science: which have profoundly affected human life and the sum of human knowledge. Science implies intelligence, understanding, progress. War, on the othei hand, is mass murder, mob baibausm, the glorification of the .brute. elevate the sordid business of wholesale massacre to the status of a science, to term a man of war a man of science, is a foliy amounting lo intellectual sin of the first magnitude -I am, .10, XEnxE3 .
