WOOL SALES.

SERIES IN SYDNEY. DECLINE IN PRICES. ?•' SYDNEY, Sept. 3. The wool-selling season in Sydney was opened to-day. There were crowded galleries, and the market was fully equal to the Brisbane closing rates, but, compared with the opening rates of last season in Sydney, bestgrown wools showed a fall of 20 per cent. In the case of average to inferior descriptions Hie decline ranged from 20 to 25 per cent. The highest price of the day for greasy Merino fleece was 17d for five bales from Mandurama. There was good competition, mainly from Japan and Yorkshire, with strong support from local mills and a moderate demand from the Continent. Tile offerings totalled 8965 bales, of which 6670 were sold. Also 2570 bales were sold privately.
