QUESTION OF WAGES. CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. WAIHI, Monday. When finality was reached in negotiations between the district workers engaged in the goldmining industry and the mine owners before the conciliation commissioner, Mr. P. Hally, in March, in connection with the men's demand for restoration of the 10 per cent cut in wages made in June, 1931, workers employed by the Waihi Gold Mining Company, Limited, had accepted the company's offer of an allround increase of Is Gd a shift. In the case of employees at the Golden Dawn mine at Owharoa it was agreed, owing to the financial position of the company, to accept an advance of 3d a shift on the understanding that if the mine position improved during the next four months the directors of the company would be prepared to discuss the question of a further increase with Iho men’s representatives. That period lias now expired, and at a special meeting of the Miners’ Union yesterday Messrs. E. Dye (president), W. Lynch (vice-president) and W. Bieo (secretary) were appointed to act with Mr. .1. Roberts, the workers’ advocate, at a conference to be held at. an early date with the directors of the Golden Dawn Company.
