DEATH OF BUSINESS MAN. AN EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. At an inquest regarding llie death of Hubert John Suckling (58), a wellknown business man, who was killed while cycling in a collision with a truck driven by A. H. Keys on June 26, the coroner. Mr. Mosley., relumed a formal verdict, that death was due to the injuries received. He also commented on tho evidence regarding the state of the brakes on the truck. “ When Keys braked the truck lie says that ft skidded some distance. 12 to 1-7 feet, and then suddenly the brakes evidently failed to act. ” It seems an extraordinary position that for six years no such occurrence took place, and when the accident occurs it is attributed lo Ibis. H strains one’s credulity. I believe that the fact, however, may be so. Tho police, in tests made, found J tie brakes inefficient. 1 do not propose to say anything more than that.”
