LAND SETTLEMENT.
WAIKATO SOCIETY’S PROPERTY. OPERATIONS NEAR TE AWAMUTU. Good progress has been made with the development of the Waikato Land Settlement Society’s property at Wharepapa, in the Te Awamutu district. 'fop-dressing with the fertilisers given by Hamilton and Auckland firms and businessmen is being carried on. Two unemployed men are engaged in this work, and additional men will he placed on the property within a few days.
An indication of the productive capacity of the land is afforded by a fine crop of swrndes which covers 30 acres. Although the swedes were not sown until near the end of February, a big crop of good, even roots of excellent quality was produced.' For the past three weeks 1500 sheep have been running on twelve acres of the swedes, and it is estimated that there is sufficient feed remaining in this section to maintain them -for a further month.
The sheep are in excellent condition and are doing well.
