LIGHT CRAFT SPORT.
CANOES .ON THE LAKE. NEW CLUB FORMED. A further step towards the establishment of the new Lake Canoe Club was made last evening’, when a well attended meeting was held in Toorak Hall to appoint officers and consider other matters relative to the formation of the club. Mr.-S. Dabb presided. It was reported the permission to use the Lake as the club’s headquarters, and to build a boathouse, had been obtained from the Hamilton Domain Board. A condition had been made which stipulated that the canoes should not use the bathing area, or interfere with the bathers. Mr. Dabb mentioned that the chairman of the Domain Board, Mr. W. H. Paul, had also instructed him that landing on the three islands in the Lake was strictly prohibited, as they were bird sanctu-”les. The speaker added that he had informed Mr. Paul that any of the club members who disobeyed this instruction would be expelled from the club. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, The Bishop of Waikato; president, Mr. D. Seymour; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. Dabb, A. M. Bisley, J. Monk, E. C. Day, H. H. Clark, J. Dawson, Holmes, T. W. Thompson, E. Tisch, V. Pole, L. Faville, S. V. Tyler, A. Williams, F. Louden, Fowler, E. G. Scrimshaw, A. Lamberton, F. G. Watson, R. R. Lovegrove, Drs E. C. Brewis, G. W. Gower; secretary, Mr. R. H. Lovegrove, junr.; treasurer, Mr. H. R. Davies; club captain, Mr. J. Dawson: vice-captain, Mr. L. Lovegrove; committee, Messrs. N. Holden, W. McGloin, T. W. Thompson, T. Percival, R. R. Lovegrove, D. Seymour, R. H. Lovegrove, H. R. Davies, J. Dawson, L. Lovegrove, J. G. Bateson, H. Darrall, with power to add; social committee, Misses R. Riddell, A. Grice, E. Moore, M. Scarrar, Messrs. W. MoGloin, J. Dawson, R. R. Lovegrove, R. H. Lovegrove, H. Davies. The subscriptions were decided upon as 5s for seniors, and boys 15 years and under and ladies, 2s 6d. ‘ It was decided that the club colours should be red and gold. Arrangements for a parade of illuminated canoes on the Lake on December 9, when the fireworks display will be held, were considered. It was mentioned that prizes were being awarded for the best decorated canoes. The meeting was unanimous In deciding that the competition should not be restricted to the club members. A building committee consisting of Messrs. J. Dawson, R. R. Lovegrove, H. Davis, H. Martin, and C. McFlynn, was set up to deal with the erection of the club’s boathouse. Mr. Lovegrove mentioned that although the club had been in existence only a short time, 62 members were enrolled already.
