TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was held on Monday evening, when the Mayor, Mr C. G. Downes, presided. Dr. Henderson wrote further, enquiring if the council could make any suggestion regarding the taking over of his section at the corner of Fraser Street and Kihikihi Road. —The letter was received. The question of the extension of the sewerage was discussed. The town clerk reported there was a credit of £404, and when all moneys advanced to enable ratepayers to make connections had been repaid there should be a total of about £7OO available. The Works Committee is to put in a report of the cost of the suggested extensions. Theatres and Halls. The secretary, Te Awamutu Fire Board, advised that in future the board would not contribute to the cost of firemen attending theatres and halls, hut they still required such attendance being made a condition of the annual license. They also asked the council in future to prohibit all smoking on the main floor of the Town Hall during dances.—These suggesgestlons were agreed to. A petition signed by eight ratepayers of Fraser Street asked the council to favourably consider the installation of a four-inch main immediately.— The foreman to report. The engineer of the Waipa County Council drew attention to the severe drop there is on to the bridge from Tawhaio Street to Racecourse Road. At present the grade is 1 in 8. The Mayor said lie had inspected this with the foreman, and it was suggested that if runners were placed on" the bridge it would obviate any drop.—Referred to Works Committee. Domain Board. Sitting as the Domain Board, a plan of the sections of the Church Reserve that it was proposed to purchase for the extension of Albert Park was put In, and It was decided to send an offer to the Church authorities. The chairman mentioned the question of the proposed erection of a grandstand in Albert Park.—The matter was deferred to the next meeting.
