LADIES’ GUILD. The annual meeting of the Kaipalci Church Ladies’ Guild was held in the hall on Thursday last, when there was a very fair attendance. Mrs A. Goodwin was in the chair. Before commencing the business of the meeting a vote of condolence and sympathy was passed with the wife and family of the late Mr J. Wallis, the members standing in silence. The balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £5 18s, was adopted, A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president (Mrs A. Goodwin) and secretary (Mrs T. Searle) for their servloes, which was carried by acclamation. Later they were reelected. It was decided to hold a working bee in the second week of October to spring-clean the church; also to have a social afternoon on October 18, inviting the ladles of the Cambridge ohurches to be present. In keeping with the times, It was also decided to lower the subscription fee to one shilling per .member per annum until such time "as more funds were required. GIFT TO THE CHURCH. The gift of a cushion for the pulpit desk has been kindly made by the Guild ladies. The cushion is upholstered In blue and gold tapestry, to match the altar draping, and makes an effective finish. HOCKEY DANCE. The boys of the local Hockey Club organised a most enjoyable dance on Tuesday evening last, which many patrons, both from Kafpaki and the surrounding districts, attended. The floor was in excellent order and delightful dance music was provided by Clayton’s Orchestra, Cambridge. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mrs L. Cunningham and Mr J. Tarr and Miss Millar and Mr A. Boyd. Messrs C. Bones and G. Cowley ably oarried out the duties of M.G. A dainty supper was arranged and superintended by the ladles of the committee. Mr J. Boyd was M.G. for the euchre drive. Prizes were won by Mrs A. Goodwin and Mr F. Cunningham, jun.; consolation, Mrs T. Searle and Mr J. Bones.
