kicked by a horse. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Ronald Workman, aged 4, son of Mr Charles Workman, a farmer, of Kaiaua, near | Pokeno, suffered injuries to the head through being kicked by a horse on his father’s farm yesterday. The injured hoy was taken to hospital. His condition last evening was reported to be fairly serious. DEATH OF MAORI WOMAN. * GISBORNE, Friday. At an inquest into the death of a Maori woman, Kate Paerangi the coroner returned a verdict that death was due to a chill contracted after confinement, her condition being aggravated by the refusal of all treatment. He considered that had medical attention been procured, the woman’s life might have been saved. DROWNED IN A WELL. ROTORUA, Friday. Toi Woods, a Maori child, aged 2i years, was drowned in a deep well in the vicinity of Owhata Point, Lake Rotorua, this morning. At an inquest to-day a verdict of accidental death was returned. NAVAL SEAMAN INJURED. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Able-Seaman Eric Hathaway, aged 29, of H.M.S. Wakakura, suffered a compound fracture of the right leg, when the vessel was carrying out exercises in the Hauraki Gulf yesterday. The Wakakura .immediately returned to port and the injured man was taken to the hospital. His condition last evening was satisfactory.
