WHEAT EXPORTS.
PURCHASE BOARD’S SHIPMENTS WORLD PRICES IMPROVED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A statement made by the Wheat Purchase Board discloses that In all 1,012,474 bushels of wheat were shipped in the past year at prices ranging from 2s 7d, f.0.b., to 3s s}d, f.o.b. All the sales were made f.0.b., and the board was not concerned with the destination of the wheat. It is understood that one shipment went to the Far East and the rest to the Unied Kingdom. The board still has a surplus of about 1,000,000 bushels to handle, but this is being reserved in the meantime until the position of next year’s crop is more certainly established. The area sown in wheat for 1934 appears likely to approximate that for 1933, but the weather may adversely affect the yield. Given a normal yield, the 1934 harvest should bo more than sufficient for the Dominion’s requirements, and the hoard may yet be compelled to export a considerable quantity. Because of the improvement in world prices it is anticipated that the board will have available at the end of the wheat year a balance of funds to make a further payment to growers
