PAPAROA HOSPITAL.

COMPLICATED POSITION. FATE IN THE BALANCE. DARGAVILLE, Saturday. At to-day’s meeting cf the Kalpara Hospital Board a motion, that the Minister be asked to approve the board’s original estimates, whlo'h provided for keeping open the Pap ax o a 'institution cn its present basis, was) carried unanimously. The secretary was instructed to advise the Minister by telegraph and In doing so to explain that the board had taken this step, because toy leasing ,the. institution as .proposed toy the Minister there would toe no apparent saving to the 'board. The Minister had suggested a subsidy to the lessee 'of £SOO a year. The board was cf opinion that the cost of services would be increased to the ratepayers, as payment for medical treatment would have to be made toy them direct to the doctor concerned. The position is complicated by the fact that the board’s resolution that the Institution be closed on September 30 has not been rescinded. The future of the Paparoa Hospital has occasioned concern for some considerable time, and several proposals for the closing down or disposal of the institution have been put forward 'on behalf of the Board and of the Minister of Health. The Board desired to close the hospital and passed a resolution to that effect, but the Minister suggested that the Board lease it and subsidise the lessee to the extent of £SOO to pay for indigent cases.
