MATAMATA NEWS.
CARD EVENINGS. The fortnightly flag bridge evening was held on Tuesday at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. W. Simpson, Bunvood Hoad, in connection with the Anglican Church and was well attended. Fourteen tables were occupied, and winners were Mrs F. Alquist, and Mr and Mrs G. Arnold. There was a large attendance at the weekly card parly in connection with the Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday evening. Prize winners were Mrs* Delaney and Mr Bracewell. After the cards a dance followed, the music being supplied by Miss N. Pennell. VALEDICTORY. On Saturday at Mrs T. H. Prowse’s residence a farewell afternoon was tendered by members of the Bunvood Croquet Club to Mrs W. C. Kirtlan. who is leaving the district. As the weather was not suitable for outside games, the time was spent in playing flag bridge, those at the winning table being Mrs Kirtlan, Mrs Prowse and Mrs Hemsley.' After a sumptuous afternoon tea, Mrs Ilelmslcy, on behalf of the club and friends, made a presentation to the guest of honour and expressed the regret of all at her departure. Musical honours were also accorded Mrs Kirtlan. Those present were:—Mesdames \V. C. Kirtlan, T. 11. Prowse, J. W. Simpson, .). E .Harlow, \V. Hemsley, A. E. Davies, A. Finlayson, F. Bank's, and Misses E. and D. Prowse. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Garter, Mrs Simmons and Mrs A. Allison.
PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs .T. Stevenson, Flaxton, North Canterbury, were Hie guests of Mr and Mrs W. S. Wilson during the wee k. Mrs W. C. Kirtlan and 111 e Misses I). and F. Kirtlan have left Matamata to take up their residence at Manure wa. Mrs D. 11. White is on holiday in Auckland. Mr and Mrs W. D. I>. MacDonald and Miss .1. MacDonald arc spending a holiday in Auckland.
