AUCKLAND TO TE AWAMUTU. MAN’S ADVENTURE ON TRAIN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TE AWA.MUTU, Thursday When the limited express reached Te Awamutu at 10 o’clock last nignt the police arrested Andrew McPherson, a middle-aged man, who had travelled from Auckland lying on the top of a carriage. Accused was charged in the Police Court to-day with vagrancy. McPherson said he wanted to return to Taumarunui. where lie hoped to secure work. Having no money for liis fare, lie climbed on to the top of a carriage and travelled 100 miles in the cold night air. lie offered to walk Hie. .oilier 75 miles to Taumarunui if not sent to gaol. Accused was convicted and ordered In come up for sentence if called upon.
