Fines and costs aggregating £9 16s were imposed on Herbert William Lee for operating a lorry with a greater load than it was licensed to carry; operating a lorry whose weight exceeded the road classification; and driving a heavy motor vehicle at an excessive speed. Pleas of guilty were entered. Trafilc Inspector R. Metoalfo said defendant's speed on To Rore Bridge was from 5 to 7 miles an hour in cxeess of the limit, ills load was 5 tons, whereas the road was classified at -ii tons. Defendant had been warned at different timos for speeding. The inspector handed to the Bench a list of previous convictions. Mr. N- D’Arcy Smith, for defendant, explained that his client was endeavouring to complete the journey before the advent of rain. He admitted that his speed and weight were slightly in excess of the requirements. Leslie A. Boswell was charged with operating a vehicle without a heavy trafilc license and with operating an overloaded vehicle. Traffic Inspector Metcalfe said the lorry \va% driven on the llamiltonRaglan main highway and the load was 31cwt. in excess of the road classification. Defendant was fined £l, with costs 12s on each charge. For driving an overloaded lorry on the Ilamilton-Raglan main highway.
