A motor-car gang of thieves successfully raided a train bound from Darling Harbour to Merriwa and secured a carton of boots and pumps. The police state that goods valued at many hundreds of pounds are stolen from the trains in a week in the northern districts alone. Efforts of a gang of men to rob a goods train from Sydney were frustrated by; the guard, Harrigan, whose attention was attracted by a car whioh followed the train for some considerable distance. Near Awaba he heard thuds as though something had fallen from the trucks. In making investigations ha saw a bundle of goods being thrown on to the permanent way. Harrigan brought the train to a standstill and four men jumped from the train and made for the car, in which they drove off.
